A 10-month-old baby girl floated out into the Aegean Sea from Turkey in an inflatable crib before she was rescued by the country's Coast Guard.

The  girl was found about a kilometer, or a little more than 1,000 yards, from shore near Ayvacik, according to the BBC News.

Strong winds caused the inflatable crib to drift away into the sea as stunned beachgoers looked on, according to The Telegraph. The winds appeared to be taking the girl toward the Greek island of Lesbos, .

Several people tried to swim out to the girl, identified as Melda Ilgin, but couldn't reach the floating crib. Turkish Coast Guard officials found the girl unharmed and still in the inflatable when they reached her and returned her to shore, reported The Telegraph.

"The Ilgın family went to the public beach in the town of Küçükkuyu on Friday, where they placed young Melda on a flotation device and left her in the water nearby," reported BGN News. "However, between strong northern winds and the family's lack of attention, the young girl quickly began floating off into the open sea in the direction of the Greek island of Lesbos."

Many on social media blamed the parents.
