Barbara Walters spoke up in defense of Woody Allen on "The View" Monday after the acclaimed director was
accused of sexual assault by his daughter Dylan Farrow in an open letter last week. Walters' comments drew criticism from co-host Sherri Shepard and Internet users everywhere.
Walters, who has been friends with Allen and his current wife Soon-Yi Previn for years, referred to him as “sensitive,” and also said he was "loving" and "caring."

Walters did say that she didn’t know what he was like with Dylan, but was only reporting what she had seen with his other children.
Shepard drew attention to how many times people have thought highly of others who wound up doing terrible things.
The backlash from Walters’ opinion on Allen was immediate and intense.
After Farrow’s open letter, the online community took on Allen, who was lambasted in the media for these same allegations decades ago when they first surfaced during his divorce from Mia Farrow.
Allen continues to say the allegations are not true, and gave a statement via his spokemsan to the media Monday that Dylan Farrow’s letter is “untrue and disgraceful.”
Walters wasn’t the only one coming to Allen’s defense. Robert Weide, an Emmy Award-winning producer and director who worked with Allen on several projects, including a biography,
wrote an article on the allegations for The Daily Beast. He said his association with Allen is “primarily a professional one,” and then laid out the facts as he knew them about the case.
But in the court of public opinion, Allen has been tried and found guilty by many, and supporters of Allen like Walters and Weide are finding themselves attacked as well.
But some are listening to what Weide had to say:
