'Batman Vs Superman' Release Pushed Back to 2016

The "Batman vs. Superman" film release has been pushed back a year.

Warner Brothers announced Friday that the film will not be coming out until May 6, 2016, to allow "filmmakers time to realize fully their vision, given the complex visual nature of the story," CNN reported.

The movie directed by Zack Snyder, who also directed "Dawn of the Dead," "300," and "The Watchmen," was initially scheduled for a July 17, 2015, release date.

"We know that there is already great anticipation building for the next super hero film from Zack Snyder, and we are equally eager to see what he has in store for Superman and Batman as they share the big screen for the first time ever," Veronika Kwan Vandenberg, president of Warner Bros. Pictures' international distribution, said in a statement Friday.

The "Batman vs. Superman" film will be the sequel to "Man of Steel" film.

Though not much is known about the film, IMDB.com describes it as a face-off between the Dark Knight (Batman) and the Man of Steel (Superman).

According to the movie database website, the film will be shot in part in Detroit, which has faced substantial economic woes.

Last summer it was reported that Ben Affleck will play Batman in the "Batman vs. Superman" film, where he will star alongside Henry Cavil, who will reprise his role as Superman.

The decision by Warner Brothers to cast Affleck in the role that has been played by Christian Bale was met with immediate backlash, even prompting an online petition demanding that the studio reconsider the selection.

The studio did not reconsider their decision.

Other big names that have reportedly signed on for "Batman vs. Superman" are Amy Adams, who will play Lois Lane, Diane Lane as Martha Kent, and Laurence Fishburne as the editor-in-chief of the Metropolis newspaper where Clark Kent works. Joaquin Phoenix is also rumored to be involved in the production; however, his involvement was not confirmed by Warner Brothers.
