A video of a bear that saves a crow from drowning in a pool at the zoo is going viral, with more than 1.7 million views since it was posted in June.
In the video, Vali, a brown bear at the Budapest Zoo in Hungary, initially checks out a commotion in the water. The crow manages to flap itself to another part of the pool, but finds itself stuck in a corner.

The bear then gently uses its paws to hold the crow while taking a wing in its mouth, dragging the bird out of the pool and onto the ground. It lets go quickly after the crow appears to peck its nose.
The crow lays stunned for a long while before getting to its feet, although the video doesn't show if it was able to fly away.
The bear, uninterested in its new feathered friend, wanders off to munch on some fruit.
While it would be nice to believe the bear was being friendly, it's more likely Vali was just following instinct.
"Sorry to break it to you all, but this had nothing to do with compassion. The bear saw the crow as prospective food ... but after copping a beak to the nose (you can see the bite, and the bear shake it's head immediately after), it decide to move onto foodstuffs that don't entail potential wounds. Yes, it could have simply torn into the crow and made short work of it, but decided instead to go with the plethora of food laying around the enclosure. A logical choice for a well-fed animal," a commenter wrote on the YouTube video.
But others wanted to believe the best, deeming Vali the "hero bear."
