“Beauty and the Beast” continues to dominate at the box office, as the Disney movie has now grossed $1 billion worldwide.
The film broke $1 billion in earnings worldwide on Thursday after it hauled in another $2.4 million in North America and $6.8 million overseas, according to Forbes.
That brought the movie's total domestic earnings to $438.3 million and $564.1 million overseas, equalling gross earnings of just over $1 billion.
The film isn’t done showing, though, considering Japan is next on the list to debut the live-action remake of the 1991 animation, according to Deadline Hollywood.
The film was already considered 2017’s highest-grosser worldwide, but the box office draw this week catapulted it into in a different category; it's now the highest-grossing live-action movie musical in history.
The movie is now the 29th to pass the $1 billion-threshold at the global box office, joining other films, such as “Zootopia,” “Alice in Wonderland,” “Jurassic Park,” “Titanic,” “Avatar,” and “Frozen,” Forbes noted.
Disney can pat itself on the back, as “Beauty and the Beast” is its second live-action film to break $1 billion (“Alice in Wonderland” was first), The Hollywood Reporter noted.
In fact, 14 Disney movies fall on that list of 29 that have earned $1 billion or more.
The last film to bring in $1 billion was “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story,” which came out in December of last year.
