Bebe Neuwirth is leaving "Madam Secretary" after playing Chief of Staff Nadine Tolliver for four seasons on the CBS political drama.
Fans of the show were shocked when Neuwirth's character exited the team of Sec. of State Elizabeth McCord (played by Tea Leoni) in Sunday’s episode, The Wrap noted.
Neuwirth took to Twitter to announce that the departure was final in a series of posts.
"So grateful for my time @MadamSecretary - a wonderful show where I love the cast, crew, background artists. #lifelongfriends," she wrote.
"So grateful to @CBS for accepting my request to depart @MadamSecretary and writing a beautiful exit for me .#IllmissNadine," she added in another post.
"So grateful for everyone's support & good wishes here in Twitterland," she said in her final tweet.
Fans of the hit series were devastated by the news.
Neuwirth has been with "Madam Secretary" since the show first premiered four seasons ago and while her departure is one to mourn, a new addition to the cast in the form of Sara Ramirez could help ease the loss.
TV Line reported that the "Grey’s Anatomy" star would be included as a series regular in "Madam Secretary" in season four.
"We’re very excited that Sara is joining the cast," Barbara Hall, executive producer and series creator, said via TV Line. "She brings a fresh perspective and a fun, energetic quality to the State Department staff."
