Read Ben Carson's lips: Donald Trump's vice president list includes Sarah Palin, Marco Rubio, Chris Christie, Ted Cruz and John Kasich, the
Washington Post reported.
Carson, former GOP presidential nominee turned Trump surrogate, straight out told a reporter sitting in a car with him while on the way to a television interview that the five were on the list, said the Post. The confirmation came while Carson was being told the five were named in a poll of best-liked potential vice presidential candidates by the website
Morning Consult, stated the Post.
"Those are all people on our list," said Carson, per the Post.
Carson sought to clarify the comments after the Post's story broke on Sunday.
"When it comes to who could be the vice president and you name a list of people, I'm going to say yes to everybody, everybody could potentially be considered, doesn't mean they are on the shortlist," Carson told the Post.
Palin, the former Alaska governor, has been through the process before as John McCain's vice presidential running mate in 2008. Rubio and Cruz, both U.S. senators from Florida and Texas, respectively, and governors Christie and Kasich, all competed against Trump for the GOP slot before Trump became the presumptive nominee.
Palin has stumped the country as a Trump surrogate since endorsing the real estate mogul, noted
CNN.
Cruz and Kasich both quit the primary slog this month after Trump handily won the Indiana primary with 53 percent of the vote, compared to Cruz's 37 percent and Kasich's eight, noted
CBS News and
Politico.
Kasich, governor of the battleground state of Ohio, told CNN on Monday that he was "not inclined" to be Trump's running mate, said
The Hill newspaper.
"It would be very hard for me, unless he were to change all of his views and become a uniter, for me to get in the middle of this thing," Kasich told CNN's Anderson Cooper, noted The Hill.
Christie, governor of New Jersey, was named earlier this month to head up Trump's White House transition team, said the Post. Christie endorsed Trump in February after dropping out of the race and has been one of his most visible surrogates, noted the Post.
