Bethenny Frankel is not prepared to sit back and do nothing while others suffer.
The "Real Housewives of New York City" actress traveled to Puerto Rico to help Hurricane Maria victims despite having 12 stitches in her face after undergoing skin cancer removal surgery recently, People magazine noted.
Her latest humanitarian endeavours comes on the back of a trip to Mexico in which Frankel reached out to victims of the recent 7.1 magnitude earthquake there.
Frankel provided funding from her own pocket as well as from her charity organization to enable four planes to distribute essential items to those in need in Puerto Rico.
The delivery included donations of over 20,000 pounds of medical and survival supplies as well as 2,000 pounds of non-perishable meals and around $55,000 in cash and gift cards.
"This is a forgotten island," she told People about her journey to Puerto Rico, describing how people had been living on their roofs for 13 days.
"It is like nothing I have ever seen," she continued. "People’s entire homes and cars are immersed in mud, the likes I’ve never seen."
Upon visiting Puerto Rico, Frankel said that relief efforts needed to be more systematic.
She said the situation could be bettered managed.
"It is a war zone," she told the New York Post's Page Six, adding that she was the first celebrity to touch ground.
"I do not play the blame game, but the [78] towns of Puerto Rico need to be methodically mapped out and visited, and the relief needs to be organized, delegated and executed."
President Donald Trump has come under fire for his response in providing hurricane recovery efforts to Puerto Rico and prompted further criticism for his visit to the island on Tuesday during which, the Los Angeles Times noted, he told officials they should be "proud" of a death toll that stood in double digits instead of thousands.
