Bette Midler, a two-time Oscar-nominated actress and three-time Grammy winner, will perform at the Academy Awards for the first time ever next month.

Oscars show producers Craig Zadan and Neil Meron announced Wednesday that Midler, 68, would sing a song during the live telecast of the awards ceremony on March 2.

"We are thrilled to have Bette perform on the Oscars for the very first time," Zadan and Meron said in a statement. "We believe she will make our Oscar telecast an especially moving evening."

No word yet on what song Midler will be singing or how she'll be incorporated into the program. The veteran star tweeted asking for fan recommendations.

Midler's fans took to Twitter to express their excitement over her scheduled Oscar performance

Midler garnered two Best Actress Oscar nominations for 1979's "The Rose" and 1991's "For the Boys." She's also produced nearly 15 musical albums and said late last year she's debating on whether to put out a new record.

"I love harmony singing and I've been toying with the idea of doing an album of just harmonies — girl groups from the '30s to about the '80s, something like that. You know, all-girl groups," she told Katie Couric during a November appearance on "Katie." "There are so many fantastic girl groups and I'm sort of going though that music now."

Ellen DeGeneres will host the 86th Annual Academy Awards, which will air live March 2 at 7 p.m. EST.
