The wait for Beyonce's album is over as the new self-titled release, her most ambitious project to date, debuted Thursday as a surprise iTunes exclusive.

While Mrs. Carter had hinted all year that she was working on a follow up to 2011's "4" — her first record since becoming a mom — she and an array of A-list singers, rappers, and producers working with on the project featuring 14 songs and 17 videos kept it under wraps.

And it all went as planned.

"I felt like I didn't want anybody to give the message when my record is coming out. I just want this to come out when it's ready and from me to my fans," Beyonce said in a statement.

Albums and a double disc CD/DVD will be sold in coming weeks.

Beyonce worked with husband Jay Z, Justin Timberlake, Frank Ocean, Drake, and Miguel among others for the album, which features a video for each song.

The album showcases a different side of the artist, according to a review by the New York Daily News.

Revealing a different persona, Beyonce “gives her music a soft new focus. In song after song, she drapes herself over the music with an insinuating sensuality. The beats, too, have a hazier texture, and proceed at a slower pace, the better to let the music last longer,” Jim Farber wrote.

The song "Drunk in Love" was trending on Twitter Friday. Fans were loving the new music.
