Justin Bieber's insensitive comment about hoping Anne Frank would have been a "belieber" sparked a new hashtag on Twitter over the weekend: #JustinBieberWW2Movies.

The 19-year-old Canadian pop star visited the Anne Frank House museum in Amsterdam Friday and signed the guest book with a comment that has Twitter users up in arms.

"Truly inspiring to be able to come here. Anne was a great girl. Hopefully she would have been a Belieber," Bieber wrote, referring to his legion of diehard fans.

Anne Frank was a Jewish teenager who hid with her family in a small apartment above a warehouse during the Nazi occupation of World War II. Her family was caught and deported, and Anne died in the Bergen-Belsen concentration camp in 1945.

The diary she kept in hiding was recovered and published after the war, and has become the most widely read document to emerge from the Holocaust.

Others took to mocking the comment by rewriting famous World War II-era movie titles to reflect Bieber's vanity.
