A group of bikers popping wheelies and pulling stunts on their motorcycles taunted a California Highway Patrol officer on Oct. 11, refusing to pull over when he motioned for them to do so, video shows.
When a video of the incident appeared on the YouTube channel of GuruStunts on Tuesday, the CHP
redoubled its efforts to find the bikers, NBC Bay Area said. The owner of that account said he was not one of the riders and did not shoot the video, claiming it was sent to him.
The video shows the motorcyclists weaving on the road, popping wheelies, and then standing on their seats and doing other stunt-like riding. Although the CHP officer is seen trying to get the bikers to pull over, he leaves when the riders refuse, with one of them pointedly waving him off.
CHP officer Ross Lee
told The Mercury News the officer pulled ahead to await the back-up he had called, and then followed the group until they left the highway.
"He did what was safe," Lee told the News. "The riders had no intention of being compliant. ... He made the right decision."
CHP is looking for those riders, who could potentially be charged with reckless driving, exhibition of speed, and evading an officer, all misdemeanors, NBC said.
The person behind the GuruStunts account also represents a StreetFighterz, which sells clothing and merchandise, NBC said.
"We are a Streetbike Freestyle Stunt Team based out of St. Louis, Mo.,” the
company’s website said. “After releasing our first underground film in 2000, our antics became legendary around St. Louis and the word began to spread. 13 years later, here we are, still doing what makes us feel alive. We have 15 DVD titles and three box sets under our belts. We've traveled the country around and back, living through every experience like its our last."
