Bill Wyman, former bassist for the Rolling Stones, has been diagnosed with prostate cancer, it was announced this week.

"He is undergoing treatment and is expected to make a full recovery as it was caught in the early stages," a spokesman for the musician said Tuesday, BBC reported

"The Wyman family has asked for their privacy during this time. No further comment will be made at this point."

Wyman, 79, was seen most recently in public just last weekend, when he attended the wedding of media mogul Rupert Murdoch and Jerry Hall.

Hall, a former model and actress, has four children with Rolling Stone's frontman Mick Jagger.

Wyman joined the Stones in 1962, and provided bass licks for "Paint It Black," "Gimme Shelter," and a slew of other hits. He is also credited with writing the guitar riff for "Jumpin' Jack Flash."

"I was just messing about at the piano and started doing this riff, da-daw, da-da-daw, da-da-daw, then Brian played a bit of guitar and Charlie was doing a rhythm," he wrote in his autobiography. "Mick and Keith came in and said, 'Hey, that sounded really good, what is it?'"

Wyman left the band in 1993, at which time the band lost not only a bassist, but also their unofficial archivist — as he was the one who kept photographs and news clippings of the band's rise to stardom.

The Daily Mail reported that Wyman "has kept a relatively low profile since leaving the group. Last year, he released his first solo album for 33 years, entitled 'Back To Basics,' which he put together after finding 60 unreleased tracks as he archived old demo tapes."
