Billie Eilish Struck by Object Thrown During Show

By    |   Monday, 16 December 2024 01:07 PM EST

Pop star Billie Eilish was struck in the face by an object thrown from the crowd during a performance Friday in Glendale, Arizona.

The incident took place at the Desert Diamond Arena while Eilish, 22, was singing the ballad "What Was I Made For?" which appeared on the "Barbie" soundtrack.

Footage captured by fans shows Eilish flinch as the object strikes her face, but without missing a beat she continues to sing the chart-topping track.

Eilish has previously addressed the issue of fans tossing objects. At the world premiere of "Barbie" in July 2023, she acknowledged the intent behind such gestures but said they are unacceptable.

"I've been getting hit on stage with things for, like, literally six years. I don't know why this is new," Eilish told The Hollywood Reporter at the time. "People just get excited, and it can be dangerous."

Most of the objects thrown on stage, Eilish said, were smartphones aimed at capturing a selfie with the artist.

"It's absolutely infuriating when you're up there," she said. "But you know it's out of love, and they're just trying to give you something. You're in a vulnerable position, but I've been getting hit with stuff for years."

This latest incident reflected a troubling trend. Most recently, Zach Bryan stopped one of his concerts after an audience member threw an object toward him during a show in Washington. A guitar player Bryan was performing with was hit by the object.

Last year, a man was arrested and charged with assault, aggravated harassment, attempted assault, and harassment after he threw a cellphone at Bebe Rexha during a concert in New York City.

Country music star Kelsea Ballerini also halted one of her shows last year after being hit with a bracelet.
