Legendary artist Billy Joel dedicated his song "The Entertainer" to Donald Trump at a New York City concert on Friday, and the presidential nominee-in-waiting took to Twitter to take it as a compliment, reported Time magazine.

Time reported that Joel has done the same dedication to Trump at other concerts in recent months. The Grammy Award-winning singer, though, declined to give his opinion on Trump's presidential run when he was asked by the magazine.

"I'm in the entertainment business," Joel told Time on Saturday. "Donald Trump's campaign has been very entertaining. Aside from that, who cares about the political opinions of a piano player?"

Trump accepted the recognition as a compliment with a post on Twitter Friday.

Rolling Stone magazine said a debate is now brewing over whether Joel's dedication was sincere, noting that this isn't the first time the legendary musician has used one of his songs to mock a Republican presidential candidate:

"At recent shows, Joel has also dedicated his 'New York State of Mind' to Sen. Ted Cruz, who previously ridiculed Trump and his 'New York values' during his time campaigning for the Republican presidential candidacy."

Twitter reaction to Joel's dedication to Trump ranged from disbelief to sarcasm.
