Billy Joel opened up about his life in a two-hour interview with Howard Stern on Monday in New York City, where the "Piano Man" musician discussed drugs, family, religion in front of some 150 fans.
The 64-year-old, six-time Grammy Award winner told Stern that in addition to this current month-to-month run at Madison Square Garden, he had recently recorded a Christmas song with Johnny Mathis. At 78 years of age, Joel said Mathis still has an amazing voice. "He sounds great!" he said.

Joel also mentioned that at one point earlier in his career he considered forming a "supergroup" with Sting, Don Henley and "another guitarist," adding that he "liked being in a band."
The legendary rocker then said the possibility for such a joint musical venture hadn't yet been ruled out, adding "Someday we might put together a silly supergroup."

Stern's SiriusXM radio show Monday.
Having long battled depression, Joel also discussed his substance abuse issues that led to a suicide attempt several decades earlier.
The rocker discussed his experimentation with heroin. He told Stern he had only tried once and that it "scared" him. Joel added that his experimentation was the inspiration behind the song "Scandinavian Skies" from his 1982 album "The Nylon Curtain,"

Joel also fielded a question about his daughter Alexa Ray Joel from "The Today Show's" Matt Lauer. He asked how she was doing after
she collapsed during a performance at the Carlyle Hotel on Manhattan's Upper East Side two weeks ago.
"She's really good," Joel said. "Everyone thinks dad set it up ... she did it on her own."
Alexa Ray Joel was reportedly diagnosed with vasovagal syncope at the ER and released the same day.
Joel also performed with several musicians, including Pink, with whom he sang a duet of "She's Always a Woman." According to Pink, she walked down her wedding aisle to that song.
"You changed my life. . . You were like a god that I prayed to," Pink told Joel.
Joel also played piano as Tony Award-winning artist Idina Menzel sang "Honesty," while he took a back seat to Boyz II Men's singing "The Longest Time," the AP noted.
