Karen Schoeve turned to Craigslist when she needed to find a new home for her 1,100-pound female cow bison named Bullet after going through a divorce and having to downsize her home in Argyle, Texas,
CNN reported.
She found a new home for the buffalo a few miles away, and the new owners, who asked to remain anonymous, gave her a key so she can visit her old pet anytime.
The 7-year-old bison imprinted on humans since birth.
"When she is hot and sweaty, she'll come in and lay on the couch," Schoeve said, according to
KFAA-TV. "No, I'm kidding -- kind of. I mean, she comes in the house."
The animal never relieved itself indoors or caused any problems.
"She watches the fish tank for a while. She doesn't mess up a thing, and walks around very neatly like she belongs in the house," Schoeve told the station.
Schoeve said she didn't intend to invite the animal indoors but the animal found a door that swung open during a windy day and entered on her own. Since then she's been allowed inside about once a year,
Inside Edition reported.
Schoeve received complaints that Bullet should be turned over to a rescue after the Craiglist ad appeared, announcing a "TAME/HOUSEBROKEN BUFFALO COW" on sale for $5,950, Inside Edition reported.
She had originally planned to start a Western-themed attraction at the 1880s boarding house she bought with her then-husband. She also had about 30 horses on the site. But the couple split in 2014. She sold most of the horses, but wanted to keep Bullet.
"I tried to live the dream but I just couldn't do it. It was too big a dream," Schoeve told Inside Edition.
Twitter users had fun with the odd sale.
