The "Black Panther" official trailer has proven to be wildly popular on social media with more than 5.2 million views on YouTube and more than 23,000 comments since its release Monday, suggesting another mega hit for the Marvel movie franchise.
The Black Panther character, played by Chadwick Boseman, was introduced in 2016's "Captain America: Civil War," but buzz for his own movie reached a fever pitch at Comic-Con International this summer with the new trailer, sans a few tweaks, which was released to the public online Monday, Wired magazine said.
"It's a slightly different cut, and set to Vince Staples' 'BagBak' mixed with some Gil-Scott Heron, but all of the energy that came through in that Comic-Con 'Black Panther' trailer is here, and it's a sight to behold. It should be," wrote Wired's Angela Watercutter about the movie that will hit theaters Feb. 16.
Engadget's David Lumb wrote that the trailers gave fans the glimpse of star-studded cast, which includes Oscar winners Lupita Nyong'o and Forest Whitaker and Academy Award-nominated Angela Bassett.
"The trailer is more of a highlight reel of the incredible sights and fights waiting for us in the full film, but visible throughout is T'Challa ferociously defending his rule, nation and people – in that order," Lumb wrote. "In a cinematic universe of uncertain everyman do-gooders, 'Black Panther" is about an imperious African royal keeping his country safe from outsiders...and itself."
Fans cheered the trailer on social media.
