A video showing New Black Panther party member Mikhail Muhammad hoping to place a $1 million bounty on the capture of George Zimmerman is circulating on the Internet and getting news coverage despite the fact that it was taped in March 2012.
In the video made prior to Zimmerman’s arrest for the killing of Trayvon Martin, Muhammad – clad in all black paramilitary garb – informs reporters of the Black Panthers’ intention to help apprehend Zimmerman and turn him over to police, despite there being no arrest warrant out for him at the time.
"We’re going to force our government to do their job properly, and if they don’t, we will," Muhammad told reporters.

"We’re saying to President Obama, you gotta do your job on this one buddy," the Black Panther spokesman said, adding that his group has already received support from athletes and entertainers to hunt down Zimmerman. "So white America, we have given you 400 years to get it right and you still have failed black people . . . Today as black men, we must stand up. We must say to white America, ‘Time is up for you.’"
The bounty threat was apparently never carried out.
Zimmerman was arrested by authorities several weeks later and charged with second degree murder.
Zimmerman had initially been arrested and soon after released by police immediately following the killing of the 17-year-old Martin, when at the time authorities concluded there was not enough evidence to charge him.
Last Saturday, a jury of six women sided with the initial police sentiment and acquitted Zimmerman of the second degree murder and manslaughter charges.
Reacting to the verdict, New Black Panther Party leader
Malik Zulu Shabazz told Redding News Review last week that Zimmerman "will always be hunted and hated like the villain that he is and the demon that he is to many."
"Those jurors were making a direct statement to black America," Zulu Shabazz said. "They were telling us that, ‘We are in fear of the black male, fear of the black man and fear of the Trayvon Martins and we are going to maintain this first, the right of us to kill you n****r.’"
