Blake Shelton and Miranda Lambert issued a statement this week announcing that one of America's favorite country couples is splitting up after four years of marriage.
"This is not the future we envisioned,"
the couple’s statement read, according to Us Weekly. "And it is with heavy hearts that we move forward separately. We are real people, with real lives, with real families, friends, and colleagues. Therefore, we kindly ask for privacy and compassion concerning this very personal matter."
Prior to their marriage, the power couple collaborated numerous times, and first met in 2005 at CMT’s 100 Greatest Duets Concert. At that time, though, Shelton was still married to his first wife, Kaynette Gern, whom he
divorced in 2006, according to TheBull.com.
Shelton married Lambert in May 2011 in Texas
The two superstars had been part of each other’s success, co-writing their hit single “Over You” about Shelton’s late sibling Richie.
Last January, Lambert spoke about her marriage, telling Us Weekly, “I’m not sunshine and roses. Blake’s the happiest person on the planet. He pulls me out of my darkness . . . Literally, everything is the best about being married.”
