The Internet cuts both ways for U.S. Olympic skier Bode Miller. Fans rushed to Miller’s defense on social media when questions from NBC interviewer Christin Cooper brought him to tears. But some have taken to the same social media sites to attack Miller for his controversial child custody battle.
Cooper received widespread criticism for pushing Miller to tears with questions about his brother, Chelone, who died last year.

But the Olympian defended Cooper on Twitter.
Along with bringing up the death of his brother, the Olympic spotlight also has resurfaced the skier’s custody battle with ex-girlfriend Sara McKenna over their son.
A California court granted custody to Miller after McKenna moved to New York while pregnant to attend Columbia University on the G.I. Bill,
according to The New York Times. A New York appeals court ruled that the decision violated McKenna’s rights, and now there's a cross-country battle for the baby boy for whom the couple can't even agree on a name. She calls him Sam; Miller calls him Nate, the Times reports.
On Monday,
Slate reprinted a November column about the battle, spurring new attention on Twitter and dampening sympathy for the skier after the interview about his brother.
