A 7-year-old Texas boy cleaned out his piggy bank and donated the money to a local mosque that was vandalized on Monday in a feel-good show of support as the world is left reeling from last week's Paris terrorist attacks.
Jack Swanson, of Pflugerville, Texas, wanted to support The Islamic Center of Pflugerville after the group found a Quran torn up and covered with
feces outside its building this week, KVUE reported. The situation is being investigated by police as a possible hate crime, and many in the community are reaching out to show their support.
"This gives me hope because this means that it's not, you know, one versus the other because two years, 10 years, 50 years — I'll be gone. But my kids and Jack, both Americans, born here are going to grow up together," Faisal Naeem, a mosque board member, told the local station, adding that clean-up costs were estimated to cost $150.
Swanson's mother Laura, who is not Muslim, said she was just happy her family could help.
"We got together our pennies and it came out to $20 so we did what we could," she told KVUE. "It doesn't matter what you believe or I believe or he believes or anybody believes. All faith is important. And especially peaceful faith I mean what happened in Paris is not what's happening in Pflugerville. We should all be here supporting each other."
For Naeem, the amount of money the Swansons donated didn't matter.
"It's $20 but coming from Jack collecting his pennies, it's worth $20 million bucks to me and to our community," he told KVUE.
Little Jack's generosity affected many, who posted online about his kindness:
