Bra Holster Adjustment Led to Woman's Fatal Self-Inflicted Gunshot

By    |   Thursday, 19 February 2015 07:20 PM EST

A Michigan GOP township delegate who accidentally shot and killed herself on Jan. 1 was adjusting her gun in a bra holster, newly released details about the shooting indicated this week.

Christina Bond, 55, died after shooting herself in the eye at her St. Joseph home.

"She was having trouble adjusting her bra holster, couldn't get it to fit the way she wanted it to. She was looking down at it and accidentally discharged the weapon," St. Joseph Public Safety Director Mark Clapp told Michigan Live.

Bond, who had just been elected to serve as a precinct delegate for St. Joseph Charter Township precinct 1, was active in the Christian Motorcycle Association, and served at the Berrien County jail ministry, her obituary said. In 2013, she won the Miss Michigan Figure Overall Championship.

Bond’s death became part of the national gun argument, and was tied online to comments made by Nevada Assemblywoman Michele Fiore, who told The New York Times about a bill that would allow concealed firearms on college campuses. “If these young ... girls on campus have a firearm, I wonder how many men will want to assault them," she said. "The sexual assaults that are occurring would go down once these sexual predators get a bullet in their head.”

The fact that bra holsters even exist surprised some people online.
