Bradley O’Leary, a former NBC News talk radio host who now publishes a political blog, has offered to pay for Russell Brand to move to Syria after the British comedian made a joke about it last week in a string of controversial comments about the Tunisian beach massacre.
Brand sparked outrage over the weekend when he claimed the massacre — in which 38 tourists were killed, many of them Britons — was the U.K. government's fault. The comedian also bashed the country's moment of silence for the victims on Friday as
"total bulls***," according to the Daily Mail.
"If he feels so strongly why does he not go and live in Syria and I would pay his fare for him. Anyone else contribute?" one commenter wrote on a video of Brand's rant.
The comedian responded, saying he had a "good mind" to go as long as someone would provide him with a first-class ticket.
Well, seems he's in luck:
O'Leary has written Brand an open letter offering to pay his first-class fare to Syria.
“I heard about your considering travel to Syria, if a first-class ticket is provided," O'Leary wrote. "I also understand that you unleashed a tirade of vile jokes about the beach massacre in Tunisia and denounced Britain’s one minute of silence in honor of the victims of the massacre, as 'an empty futile gesture' and 'total bulls**.'"
O'Leary then tells Brand his ticket is contingent on the comedian reading two of his books — "God and America’s Leaders" and "The United States Citizens’ Handbook."
The author also invited others to wish Brand a “bon voyage” on his journey to Syria.
“I understand your critics initiated a fundraising campaign on Go Fund Me on July 4th, an ideal date, to send you to Syria," he wrote. "Well, they no longer need to raise money to send you to Syria because I am paying for it along with your car service to the airport."
Brand has not yet responded to O’Leary’s invitation, at least not on social media.
