Brandy Ignored on Subway: Grammy Winner Doesn't Impress NYC Commuters

Brandy may be a Grammy Award-winning singer but she was ignored while spontaneously performing on a New York City subway train in disguise on Monday, with fellow passengers avoiding eye contact with her and disinterestedly minding their own business.

Brandy, 36, recently relocated to New York to play the part of Roxie Hart in a production of “Chicago” on Broadway and, although she has no shortage of adoring fans on and off the Great White Way, the difficult-to-impress Big Apple commuters shocked the singer, according to ABC New York.

“I decided to hit the subway and sing my little heart out,” Brandy wrote on her blog after the experiment. “You've GOTTA check out this video and see why this fun-filled morning left me asking: Can a Sistah get ONE fan?!”

The video she released shows the singer boarding the train donning a hoodie, headscarf, and sun glasses before settling in the standing compartment and belting out a rendition of Whitney Houston’s “Home” before a crowd of indifferent commuters.

After she finished, she turned to the people around her, asking, “What y'all think of that? Y'all thought that was cool?”

After receiving no responses whatsoever, she said, “Hello? Nobody heard me singing? Nobody cares? Ok.”

Brandy then faced the cameraman, adding, “Nobody on the train responded and I feel very, very emotional right now,” before saying that she was going to call her mom.

Her cameraman then reminded her that she would have no cell phone reception on the train, which caused her to laugh as she turned towards one onlooker on the train and asked him what he thought. He replied that she was good, but that she was too “into” herself, which barred her from connecting with other people.

“You got talent, man; go for it,” the passenger advised her. “We've seen this a million times. You've gotta do something different.”

After exiting the train, Brandy remarked to her friend, “I've got one fan on the subway.”

Brandy’s talent was far more appreciated at the Grammy Awards, where she won her title in 1999 for the hit duet, “The Boy Is Mine” with fellow singer Monica.
