Sheislane Hayalla, the first runner-up of a beauty pageant in Brazil, snatched the crown from the winner's head, threw it onto the stage, and stormed away at the end of the Miss Amazonas contest.
Hayalla claimed the winner, Carol Toledo, bought the title.
"I wanted to express my disapproval of the actions shown in preparation of Miss Amazonas 2015. I don't regret having protested," she wrote in a message posted on her Facebook page. "I wanted something clean and honest."
"There were more prepared contestants (than the winner), and they do not regret what I did because it was not against them but against the coordination of the competition,"
Hayalla said, according to Agence France-Presse.
Toledo defended the win, saying she earned the beauty pageant title by effort and sacrifice, AFP said.
Twitter users reacted to the outburst.
