Brenda Buttner, host of the Fox News show "Bulls and Bears," died Monday at age 55 after a battle against cancer.
Co-worker Neil Cavuto gave an emotional tribute to Buttner on his show Monday. He talked about how she loved motorcycles and had once quit broadcasting to edit a motorcycle magazine. He also said she loved animals and was ecstatic when Ringling Brothers circus recently decided to shut down.
Cavuto said Buttner was passionate about her work but loved her two young adult daughters even more. He said she never missed staffers’ birthdays and showed concern for those who were sick while not mentioning her own illness to anyone.
Buttner was respected and listened to by everyone, Cavuto said. “Let it be known that Brenda Buttner made us want to watch a business show with heart. Her heart. Her spirit. She democratized dollars and just made sense.”
According to Cavuto, Buttner once told the Sun Sentinel it was an advantage to be a woman on a business show. "'Women are not afraid to simply admit they don’t know about something, which men rarely do. So women realize there is no such thing as a stupid question when it comes to understanding an investment,'" Cavuto quoted her as saying.
“Business journalism would never be the same. I just don’t know, now that she is gone whether we will ever be,” Cavuto finished.
Buttner graduated from Harvard, was a Rhodes scholar, and started her TV career at NBC affiliate KCRL in Reno, Nevada. Buttner also hosted CNBC’s “The Money Club” and was a Washington correspondent before joining Fox in 2000.
Fans took to Twitter to mourn Buttner's death.
