Political consultant Roger Stone is warning that the Democrats are showcasing a "dress rehearsal" for what could be an impeachment of President Donald Trump as they try to derail the nomination of Judge Brett Kavanaugh.
In an email sent to supporters Tuesday, Stone said "efforts to destroy" Kavanaugh are merely a precursor to what may happen if Democrats take control of the House in the November midterm elections.
"If the Democrats win control of the U.S. House of Representatives a few short weeks from now they will follow the exact same game-plan," Stone wrote. "The Democrats in control of the House will pass articles of impeachment almost immediately.
"My 40 years in American politics and my service to four Republican presidents tells me the Kavanaugh take-down is the dry-run for the coming jihad to impeach President Trump — mark my words!"
Kavanaugh's nomination to the Supreme Court is on hold as the FBI investigates recent allegations of sexual misconduct against the judge that date back more than 30 years. Kavanaugh claims the accusations are a political hit, an argument that many Republicans also believe.
Democrats have pushed back hard against Kavanaugh's nomination since he was first picked in July to replace the now retired Associate Justice Anthony Kennedy.
The Democrats also oppose nearly everything Trump does and tries to do.
Stone's email went into detail about the investigation probing whether the Trump campaign had an improper relationship with the Russians. Stone's ties to the campaign have come under scrutiny, and he said in August that he could be the next person on special counsel Robert Mueller's "hit list."
In his email Tuesday, which closed by seeking donations for his legal defense fund, Stone wrote, "Every week there is speculation in the media ginned up by the Democrats that I will be indicted by Mueller and his Gestapo."
