Bride Marries Guest After Groom Has Seizure at Wedding Ceremony

An Indian bride married a guest instead of the groom when her betrothed had an epileptic seizure in the midst of their wedding ceremony.

The Times of India reported Jugal Kishore of Moradabad, India, was marrying his bride, identified only as 23-year-old Indira, when he had a seizure during the ceremony. The bride was angry that her groom’s medical condition was hidden from her family.

She "announced that she would happily marry at the same ceremony a guest at the wedding, a man called Harpal Singh. The latter, incidentally, turned out to be her sister's brother-in-law," the Times wrote.

Although Singh, who was dressed casually in jeans and a leather jacket, stammered a bit, he quickly said he would “willingly take Indira as his wife,” the newspaper reported. The ceremony continued with the new couple while Kishore was taken to the hospital by his family.

However, the groom quickly returned to the wedding, only to find his bride married to someone else, the Times said. At that point, things turned violent as relatives began fighting and using plates, spoons, and other items at hand to attack each other and try to force the bride to change her mind.

The Times reported the Kishore family initially filed a First Information Report, which is filed in India when someone is aware of a crime, but later withdrew it.

"Both families have amicably resolved the matter," a police officer told the Times. "The complaints have been withdrawn. Kishore and his family have now returned in peace to Moradabad."

The almost unheard-of wedding twist was fodder for the internet.

Another Indian bride in 2013 ended up marrying a wedding guest, but that time it was because the original groom failed to show up.
