Britney Spears has opened up about her mental wellbeing. In an Instagram video posted on Monday, the pop icon addressed concerns over her mental health and safety amid her drawn-out conservatorship battle with her father, Jamie Spears.
"Hi. So I know that there have been a lot of comments and a lot of people saying a lot of different things about me, but I just want to let you guys know that I am fine," the 38-year-old said in the video. "I'm the happiest I've ever been in my life and I'm sending all of you guys a lot of prayers, wishes, and a lot of love."
Britney's latest post comes as the #FreeBritney movement, which campaigns to have her released from her conservatorship, gains momentum. Fans are insisting that Britney has been taking strain as she continues to wage war with her father in court and believe that her attempts to reassure them otherwise are false.
"If you were the happiest you've ever been you wouldn't need a legal team to be hired for your freedom. #stockholmsyndrome is all I see," one Instagram user pointed out. Others stated that they were "not buying" her story.
Last month Britney raised questions about whether or not she was buckling under stress after posting a now-deleted video to Instagram of herself dancing. In the minute-long clip, Britney performs a sultry dance while dressed in black bikini bottoms, a red halter neck bikini top, and black heels.
Britney's deadpan face and emotionless eyes had fans worried.
"Can someone please for the love of all that is 90s pop royalty please just go get her!? The dead eyes. The look of nothingness and then sadness. My heart can't take much more," an Instagram user commented.
"Where in Gods name is her family ... she's not well and she keeps posting stuff like this," another wrote.
"She is not okay," a third Instagram user replied while another added: "I'm concerned."
Meanwhile, Britney's conservatorship case continues to drag out in court. In the latest round of events, Jamie has withdrawn a petition to reappoint attorney Andrew Wallet as co-conservator of her estate, according to People.
"It is not in Britney's best interests to be outside the conservatorship but there's a lot of politics involved," Wallet said at the time. "Britney, to this day, does not have the capacity to sign documents and make decisions for herself."
Britney's mental health also came into question in court recently when her lawyer, Sam Ingham, claimed that the "Toxic" singer lacks the mental capacity to sign a sworn declaration that would provide a first-hand account of her feelings towards her conservatorship case. The comment came about in a hearing for the conservatorship case during which the judge questioned Britney's request for a co-conservator of her estate.
