Britney Spears is speaking candidly about her life, and the facade she has been putting up over the years.
Taking to social media a day after she requested a judge end her controversial conservatorship, the pop icon admitted she had "pretended" to be okay, and had acted as if her life was fine when it wasn't.
"I just want to tell you guys a little secret. I believe as people we all want the fairy tale life and by the way I’ve posted … my life seems to look and be pretty amazing," she wrote in an Instagram post on Thursday. "I think that’s what we all strive for !!!! That was one of my mother’s best traits … no matter how s***ty a day was when I was younger … for the sake of me and my siblings she always pretended like everything was ok."
Britney explained that the reason she had brought up the topic of her mother was because she did not want the public to think that her life was perfect because it was not.
"I apologize for pretending like I’ve been ok the past two years. I did it because of my pride and I was embarrassed to share what happened to me... but honestly who doesn’t want to capture there Instagram in a fun light !!!!" the "Toxic" singer continued.
"Believe it or not pretending that I’m ok has actually helped … so I decided to post this quote today because by golly if you’re going through hell … I feel like Instagram has helped me have a cool outlet to share my presence … existence … and to simply feel like I matter despite what I was going through and hey it worked … so I’ve decided to start reading more fairy tales," the mom of two concluded.
The post also featured a quote that Britney attributed to Albert Einstein, which read, "If you want your children to be intelligent, read them fairy tales. If you want them to be more intelligent, read them more fairy tales."
On Wednesday Britney openly expressed her desire to have the conservatorship that has been in place for 13 years ended. During a virtual hearing in a Los Angeles Superior Court, she stated that her father Jamie, who has been in control of her financial and personal affairs since 2008, "loved" the control he held, according to Fox News. Britney's estate is currently being overseen by Jamie and Bessemer Trust.
During the hearing, Jamie's attorney Vivian Thoreen said her client was "sorry to see his daughter suffering and in so much pain," adding that, "Mr. Spears loves his daughter, and misses her very much."
