Brittany Maynard, terminally ill with a brain tumor and planning to die on Saturday, checked the last item off her bucket list when she visited the Grand Canyon last week.
"The Canyon was breathtakingly beautiful, and I was able to enjoy my time with the two things I love most: my family and nature,"
Maynard wrote on her website, thanking people who have supported her.
The day after her Grand Canyon visit, Maynard said, her health deteriorated.
"Sadly, it is impossible to forget my cancer. Severe headaches and neck pain are never far away, and unfortunately the next morning I had my worst seizure thus far. My speech was paralyzed for quite a while after I regained consciousness, and the feeling of fatigue continued for the rest of the day," Maynard wrote on her website.
After learning of her diagnosis in April and being told she had six months to live, the 29-year-old newlywed moved to Oregon to access the state’s death with dignity option.
Maynard had been married a year when she found out she had an
aggressive brain cancer, CNN reported.
Since then, Maynard has been at the center of the assisted-suicide debate when she announced plans to use a lethal dose of medicine to die on Saturday.
Twitter users expressed support and criticism.
