Brittany Murphy's Last Film, 'Something Wicked,' Coming Soon

"Something Wicked," the last film actress Brittany Murphy starred in before her death four years ago, will finally be released April 4.

"It is an additional responsibility, you do want her performance to be the best it can be,” Joe Colleran, the film’s writer and producer, told the New York Daily News, “because unfortunately it's her last performance."

Colleran told the paper the editing process for the film that will debut in Eugene, Ore., was “very emotional” for him and the film crew. He said after Murphy’s death the crew had to reshoot several scenes in Oregon, described as an “extremely protracted process,” but worth waiting for because the actress’ performance is “very chilling.”

The movie, which carries an R rating, is about a young engaged couple whose pasts are filled with dark secrets.

Having starred in movies such as “Girl, Interrupted,” “Clueless,” and “8 Mile,” Murphy was 32 years old when she died of drug intoxication, pneumonia, and severe anemia, according to the Los Angeles Coroner’s office.

Screenwriter Simon Monjack, 40, Murphy’s husband, died from similar causes five months later, adding to conspiracy theories that her death wasn’t accidental and was the result of some type of poisoning.

A lab report released in November, paid for by Murphy’s father, showed high levels of toxins in the actress’ body. The Los Angeles Coroner’s office had stated that tests for poisonous substances hadn’t been run on the body.
