Brock Lesnar Returning to UFC? Nope, He's Promoting Wrestlemania

Brock Lesnar's reported return to UFC was nothing more than a rumor as the popular wrestler  hit the WWE ring this past Monday to create buzz for the upcoming WrestleMania.

On Monday Night Raw, one of Lesnar's rivals Triple H called Lesnar "great for business" in discussing his return to WWE, Newsday reported.

"Whether this is bringing back something from the past, whether that is lighting a bonfire under today’s stars or whether that is bringing them something in the future the likes of which they have never seen before, 2014 is going to be epic," Triple H said.

The WWE has had to look to past stars to build momentum for the company's biggest show, WrestleMania, which will host its 30th annual event in New Orleans on April 6. Lesnar's return to mix it up with up and comers will bring the kind of return on investment WWE is looking for.

"Talent is the WWE’s only natural resource," Triple H told a press conference. "... So insuring a constant supply of fresh talent is essential."

The buzz this December, though, was about Lesnar's return to UFC, where he was a champion. The Bleacher Report reported that while UFC president Dana White always downplayed Lesnar's return, the rumor mill never ceased.

"Georges St-Pierre had announced a few weeks ago that he was going on an indefinite hiatus, and Anderson Silva had hinted at retirement a few days out from UFC 168," The Bleacher Report reported on Thursday. "What would the UFC do without its two biggest stars?

"Then, from out of nowhere, a possible solution surfaced in the form of a familiar face. The rumor mill began buzzing about the possibility of Lesnar, a former UFC heavyweight champ and one of the biggest pay-per-view draws in MMA history, returning to the UFC to resume his fighting career," Bleacher added.

SB Nation's Dave Meltzer, though, said there never was a Lesnar return to UFC because WWE had him under an exclusive contract – and has since 2012.

"Lesnar signed a lucrative one-year contract with WWE in April 2012, and then signed a two-year renewal before that deal expired," Meltzer wrote for his MMA Fighting blog on SB Nation. "Lesnar had previously worked for WWE from 2000 to 2004. Lesnar had made an international name as a headliner which was a huge part of his UFC marketability."
