Brogan Dulle, the University of Cincinnati student who went missing more than a week ago, was found dead of an apparent suicide in a vacant building next door to his apartment on Monday, according to officials.
The 21-year-old's body was found hanging in what police are calling a "self-inflicted act,"
Cincinnati Police Chief Jeffrey Blackwell told the Cincinnati Enquirer. The grisly discovery in the basement of a vacant building brought the weeklong search, which included more than a hundred law enforcement officers and volunteers, to a close Monday evening.
Blackwell told the newspaper that Dulle's body was found after the building's landlord smelled a foul odor in the structure, spotted a male figure, and called police to report a break-in.

"The landlord came to the building today and noticed a suspicious occurrence, which prompted the call to us shortly after 9 p.m.," Blackwell told the Enquirer. "We had a deceased male in the building that appears to be from a self-inflicted act."
A post on the "Find Brogan Dulle" Facebook page stated that Dulle's family had been notified of the discovery.
"The Dulle family has been informed that Brogan has been found deceased. Brogan’s family is heartbroken by the loss of their beloved son and brother. The family is overwhelmingly grateful for the love, prayers, support, and time given by the Cincinnati community. I ask for us all to respect the need for the family to grieve and support one another in privacy at this time," stated the Facebook post.
Dulle was last seen leaving his apartment around 3 a.m. May 18 after reportedly telling his friends he left his cell phone somewhere and was going to find it. The college student's apartment is located directly next to the vacant building where he was found.
Blackwell told WLWT-TV that authorities examined the vacant building's exterior during the preliminary search, but did not go inside.
"We did not see any sight of him," he said. "I think it would have been a difficult place for somebody to discover him unless you were inside."
University of Cincinnati president Santa Ono expressed condolences in a statement released by the school Tuesday.
"Brogan was part of our university family, and our hearts are heavy with the news of this devastating loss," Ono said in the statement. "On behalf of the University of Cincinnati, I want to express our deepest condolences to his parents, siblings, family, and friends. Our thoughts and prayers are with all who knew and loved him. I also want to extend my admiration and appreciation to the caring and dedicated corps of volunteers and law enforcement officials who never gave up hope."
