'Brooklyn Nine-Nine,' 'Breaking Bad': Golden Globes Big TV Winners

"Brooklyn Nine-Nine" and "Breaking Bad" were the big television series winners at the Golden Globes, earning best comedy and drama honors, respectively.

The win by AMC's "Breaking Bad," which concluded its run last summer, was not a big surprise. The show, about a cancer-stricken high school chemistry teacher who turns into a notorious meth producer, had been nominated three other times for best drama before winning Sunday, Reuters reported.

In September, "Breaking Bad" won its first Emmy Award for best dramatic series.

"Breaking Bad" star Bryan Cranston, who played the role of drug kingpin Walter White, also captured his first Golden Globe for best actor in a TV drama.

"This is such a wonderful honor and such a lovely way to say goodbye to the show that meant so much to me," Cranston said while accepting his award.

The Fox network comedy "Brooklyn Nine-Nine," starring "Saturday Night Live" alum Andy Samberg, was a surprise. The series beat out last year's winner, the critically acclaimed HBO series "Girls," and ABC's long time Emmy winner "Modern Family."

The comedy show features Samberg as a goofy police detective who gets a new captain and has a lot to prove. Samberg also captured the Golden Globe for best male comedy actor in a TV series.

"I almost went to med school," said "Brooklyn Nine-Nine" co-creator Dan Goor. "I decided to do this. This is way, way better than saving a human life."

Netflix continued to make history as "House of Cards" star Robin Wright won for best actress in a drama series. Wright plays half of a Washington D.C. political power couple opposite Kevin Spacey.

The award made Netflix the first original online programming service to earn a Golden Globe for a series.

Amy Poehler, another Saturday Night Live alum and the Golden Globes' cohost, won her first Golden Globe for best actress in a comedy series for her role as a public official in a small Indiana town in NBC's "Parks and Recreation."

"I've never won anything like this," Poehler said. "This is so cliche, but you get really nervous. I never win so I can't believe I won."
