Bruce Jenner, former Olympic gold medalist and patriarch of the Kardashian family, will be the subject of a two-hour interview special with Diane Sawyer on "20/20" this upcoming April 24.
The New York Times reported that the interview was conducted before Feb. 7, the day Jenner was involved in a car crash in Malibu that killed one. Authorities declined to press charges after reviewing the incident, but Jenner may face a wrongful death lawsuit from relatives of the victim.
The interview will continue Sawyer's hosting of in-depth specials for ABC since she left the anchor chair at "World News Tonight" in August.
It is widely speculated that Jenner is transgender — and will announce as much during the Sawyer interview — however he himself has not made any statements to support or negate such claims.
"Bruce's primary goal is to bring awareness to this issue in order to help others [in the transgender community]," a source
told People magazine.
Jenner "wants this to be taken seriously so that [his situation] can have the most positive impact on society's perception of the transgender community," the source added.
Earlier this year, Kim Kardashian, Jenner's former stepdaughter, said the family is aware of him undergoing a "journey," but remained mum on the details.
"Of course we support Bruce 100 percent," she said at the time.
On Monday, Jenner was spotted on a post-Easter hike wearing what appeared to be red nail polish. He was also wearing a very baggy hooded sweatshirt, leading some in the media to speculate that he has recently received breast implants.
