Bruce Jenner was the star of "Keeping Up With The Kardashians" this week, and part one of his two-part special focused on the reactions of his family to the announcement that he would be transitioning from male to female in the coming months.
According to People magazine, the family was surprised by Bruce's transgenderism, but quickly voiced their unwavering support. Feelings got hurt, however, because of a miscommunication between Jenner and his children.
Daughter Kendall, 19, and stepdaughter Khloe, 30, were upset after Bruce explained that he would be soon be "gone."
Kendall seemed to think that this meant her father was abandoning the family, and became visibly teary-eyed. That's when Khloe spoke up on her behalf.
"We want you to do what makes you happy," she said. "We're going to support you and be there for you, but you have to be honest with us, even if it hurts you, because it's going to hurt all of us. This hurts us more."
Jenner soon realized the miscommunication, and explained that he was not abandoning the family. When he said he would soon be "gone," he simply meant that his male identity would be replaced by a female one — a female identity likely identified by a traditionally female name.
"I love you," he said. "I'm not going anywhere. It's not like all of a sudden I'm abandoning you ... I apologize if I didn't communicate well enough."
Later on, after conversations with the family, Bruce explained in a monologue that, "Dealing with something like this ... is like dealing with a death in the family. You don't look like them anymore – you somewhat look like them but not really. It's a tough transition for the people around you."
Part two of the reality TV special airs Monday night on the E! Network. The episodes were filmed earlier this year, before Jenner's high-profile interview with Diane Sawyer.
