Bruce Springsteen is writing an autobiography, and according to
New York Post sources he has 10 million reasons to do it: That's the amount "The Boss" is being paid as an advance.
The Post said publisher Simon & Schuster is mum about the advance but book sources told the tabloid that the rocker's book is expected to be a big seller.
Simon & Schuster announced on Thursday that "Born to Run" will released Sept. 27 in hardcover, ebook, and audio versions. The book will be released in the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, and India.
"Writing about yourself is a funny business," said Springsteen. "But in a project like this, the writer has made one promise, to show the reader his mind. In these pages, I've tried to do this."
Springsteen said he actually began writing the book after the E Street Band performed at the Super Bowl halftime show in 2009. He said he pursued "privately writing" the autobiography for the next seven years.
CNN said Springsteen's life story has been made into books before, but this is the first time the rocker is telling the story himself.
Music critic Dave Marsh wrote the first Springsteen biography in 1979, called "Born to Run: The Bruce Springsteen Story," said CNN. Marsh also went on to publish "Glory Days: Bruce Springsteen in the 1980s" in 1987 and "Bruce Springsteen: Two Hearts, the Definitive Biography 1972-2003," in 2003.
"This is the book we've been hoping for," said Simon & Schuster publisher Jonathan Karp. "Readers will see their own lives in Bruce Springsteen's extraordinary story, just as we recognize ourselves in his songs."
