Bryan Cranston Role as Lex Luther in 'Man of Steel' Sequel Set

AMC series "Breaking Bad" star Bryan Cranston has signed on for the role of Lex Luthor in the upcoming "Man of Steel" sequel.

 

Cranston's inclusion in the DC Comics movie universe will likely be made after the conclusion of the finale of "Breaking Bad" on Sept. 29, reported Cosmic Book News.

 

The website reported that Cranston has signed on for six appearances in DC Comics movies and his role could be similar to Samuel L. Jackson's Nick Fury in "The Avengers," popping up in multiple movies to tie DC Comics characters and storylines together for an ultimate "Justice League" production.

 

The news of Cranston joining "Man of Steel" comes as Warner Bros. is being showered with criticism after announcing Ben Affleck would take on the Batman role from Christian Bale in the"Man of Steel" sequel, according to The Mirror.com.

 

Bale, arguably the fan favorite of all the Batman reincarnations in the movies, stuck to his guns about walking away from the franchise after a three-movie reboot.

 

Cosmic Book News reported that since Affeck is signed on, Warner Bros. is also interested in possibly bringing on Matt Damon as Aquaman or Martian Manhunter.

Cranston has also starred in the comedy "Malcolm in the Middle" with smaller roles in "Seinfeld," "King of Queens," and "How I Met Your Mother."

 

"Man of Steel," a reboot of the Superman franchise starring Henry Cavill in the title role and Amy Adams as Lois Lane, proved to be one of the summer's biggest hits. As of August, "Man of Steel" pulled in $289.8 million domestically and $649 million worldwide.

 

"Man of Steel" was co-produced by Christopher Nolan, who hit it big with the latest Batman trilogy, leading to initial hopes that Bale would return to the role one more time in a possible Justice League movie.
