An Aledo, Texas, high school coaching staff is being accused of bullying after its football team appeared to have run up a score against a significantly weaker team Friday night, leading to a final score of 91–0.
The Aledo Bearcats went into the game with an undefeated record against Fort Worth's Western Hills Cougars, which had yet to win a game all season with an 0-7 record.

Following the 91-0 slaughter on the gridiron, a parent filed an official complaint
against the entire Aledo coaching staff, local CBS affiliate DFW reported, for the final score which the parent viewed as excessive.
Bearcats football coach Tim Buchanan responded to the accusation by telling CBS's DFW, "I would never ask our kids not to play hard. I would never tell them, 'Go out and let them score.' That's not what you want to teach kids."
According to Buchanan, after scoring 56 points in the first half, he began putting in the second- and third-string players at the start of the third quarter to slow the team's scoring and give backup players the practice they need on the field they don't always get during competitive games.
Buchanan said he also applied the brakes on his offense by instructing his team to pursue plays that would allow the play clock to continuously run to increase the pace of the game. The coach further said he told his special teams to make fair catch calls on punt returns, which would prevent them from running back the ball and scoring a touchdown.
"I’m upset about it,"
Buchanan told the Star-Telegram after the bullying controversy arose. "I don’t like it. I sit there the whole third and fourth quarter and try to think how I can keep us from scoring."
"You don't want to embarrass. ... I've been on the other side of those scores. In 2011, Lake Travis scored 62 points on us. That doesn't feel good. It doesn't make the kids feel good," Buchanan added.
Aledo Superintendent Derek Citty also weighed in on the bullying allegation, telling the local CBS affiliate that the district would be looking into the complaint and following the same procedures it does with every bullying complaints.
"We have to do an investigation and make sure there's no legitimacy to it," Citty said.
As gratuitous as the 91-0 score appears on the surface, to put the final score in context of the Cougars' previous seven losses, on at least three occasions they lost by differences of more than 50 points: 62-10, 61-7, and 63-0.
