A British tourist bungee jumped to her death this week when she leaped off a bridge in Spain only to hit her head on another bridge below.
British tourist Kleyo de Abreu died after falling into an old stone Tablate Bridge below her drop-off point, near the mountain village of Lanjaron. The event took place around
2:35 p.m. on Tuesday, according to the Daily Mail.
The 23-year-old’s aunt witnessed the entire tragedy as it unfolded and saw her niece dangling lifelessly from the bridge.
Abreu’s father, Bernard Atwell, described his daughter as “sweet, caring, bubbly, and focused,” and said relatives are still in shock at the death of the aspiring design and fashion student.
“My primary concern is for people when they are just having fun,” Bernard Atwell said. My daughter is gone and nothing is going to bring her back, but I have spoken to the family and we are all on the same page — we don't want something like this to happen again.”
An investigative judge has already begun looking into the tragedy, with one of the leading theories of death being that the length of the bungee rope was too long.
“Although it is too early to draw any conclusions about the circumstances of the death, one of the lines of inquiry is that there was a miscalculation with the rope,” a representative for
Guardia Civil in Granada said, according to the BBC.
Abreu was said to be indulging in her second jump of the day with a local adventure sport firm when she was killed.
