Two French BASE jumpers who jumped from the Burj Khalifa in downtown Dubai set a world record on Monday when they fell 2,717 feet from the world’s tallest building.

“We feel happy for breaking the world record, but it wasn’t the main goal,” Fred Fugen told Gulf News. “We’ve been dreaming about BASE jumping from this special place, this unique place for three years now.”

Fugen and Vince Reffet prepared for the jump for a year with help from SkyDive Dubai, which posted a video of the jump on YouTube.

“We didn’t leave any room for error,” Reffet told Gulf News. “We planned everything. For sure we were scared at first but we transformed that fear into power to achieve our goal.”

Both men have done at least 600 BASE jumps, Gulf News reported.

The name of the extreme sport is an acronym for “building, antenna, span, or earth,” surfaces from which jumpers freefall and then parachute.

Reffet and Fred Fugen are members of the French BASE jumping team Soul Flyers, The Daily Beast reported.

Twitter users reacted to the amazing jump.
