Burt Reynolds 'Bandit' Auction: TransAm Just Like Movie's Up for Grabs

By    |   Friday, 10 April 2015 05:53 PM EDT

A restored 1977 Pontiac Trans Am owned by Burt Reynolds, designed to match the car from "Smokey and the Bandit," will go up for auction April 24 in Carlisle, Pennsylvania.

Reynolds bought the car, one of a small collection of special edition Trans Ams that look like the car from the movie, last year.

The car is autographed by Reynolds and will come with the Florida DMV title that proves Reynolds owned it.

“A huge amount of fans of the car and the movie are out there looking for this important piece of Americana,” said Rick Deiters of TransAmFlorida.com, Fox Sports reported. “To find an authentic black on black 1977 TA Special Edition proves to be a mission because only a limited amount of them were produced. In 2014 alone, ones in museum quality condition sold for over $100,000 and in December of 2014, another ’77 Trans Am from Reynolds’ collection sold for $450,000 … and in my opinion, that car wasn’t in as good a condition as some of the others I’ve seen.”

The highest bidder also will receive a signed jacket and hat, similar to those worn by Reynolds in the movie, which Reynolds wore in a photo shoot for the car.

The car, which is described as an exact replica of the one driven in the movie, is a special edition Y82 model with a Hurst T-Top, black interior and a 6.6-liter engine.

The is reportedly the last car in Reynolds’ collection that will be auctioned.

The auction company posted about the car on its Facebook page.
