Caitlyn Jenner may run for Senate, the transgender activist said Sunday on 970 AM radio show "Cats Roundtable" in response to a query put forth by host John Catsimatidis.
“I have considered it (running for Senate),” Jenner said. “I like the political side of it. If there’s one thing — I work very closely with the American Unity Fund — that their sole purpose, their mission statement is to get the Republican party to do a better job with all LGBT issues. ... I’m obviously more on the T portion of the LGBT and I want people to understand that. But the political side of it has always been very intriguing to me.”
Jenner added that, over the next six months, she would be looking at where she could do a better job for the community.
“Can I do a better from job on the outside, working on the perimeter of political scene and being open to talk to anybody, or are you better off on the inside? We are in the process of determining that.”
Jenner joins a growing list of celebrities who may embark upon political campaigns.
Last year, Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson told Vanity Fair he would not rule out the possibility of running for president.
“It would be a great opportunity to help people, so it’s possible. This past election shows that anything can happen,” he said.
Musician Kid Rock has said he's running for U.S Senate in 2018. Rumours first emerged earlier this year when a website, www.kidrockforsenate.com, went live. Many believed it was a hoax but the singer confirmed the website’s legitimacy on social media last week.
Following that announcement, Kid Rock again addressed the topic on his own website with a lengthy post.
“Like politicians write books during their campaigns, I'm planning on putting out music during mine and IT ALL STARTS TONIGHT AT MIDNIGHT. It's not a hoax, it's a strategy and marketing 101! No plans for an album or anything else that has been the usual norm in the music business OR politics…..and….. Senator Stabenow and I do share a love of music, although probably not the same kind. I concede she is better at playing politics than I am so I'll keep doing what I do best, which is being a voice for tax paying, hardworking AMERICANS and letting politicians like her know that We the People are sick and tired of their bullsh**!”
Kanye West also announced a 2020 presidential bid last year at the MTV Video Music Awards.
“I have decided in 2020 to run for president,’ he said during a speech.
