Camille Grammer Recovering From Hysterectomy After Cancer Diagnosis

Former “Real Housewives of Beverly Hills” star Camille Grammer is recovering from a radical hysterectomy last week after being diagnosed with endometrial cancer.

Grammer, the ex-wife of actor Kelsey Grammer, has been careful about monitoring her health because of genetic concerns, so the cancer was caught early and Grammer’s representative told Us Weekly that the surgery went well.

“The surgery went very well and she is expected to make a complete recovery following a significant recuperation period,” the rep said.

Endometrial cancer forms in the lining of the uterus and is a significant risk for women. In 2013, there will be an estimated 49,560 new cases and 8,190 deaths, according to the National Cancer Institute.

Radar Online reported that Grammer carries the same cancer gene that made Angelina Jolie decide to have a preventive double mastectomy.

While applauding Jolie’s decision, Grammer told Radar at the time, that despite doctors recommending that she have a hysterectomy, “I’m just not ready psychologically for that. If they said it was necessary, of course, I would do it right away. I get my yearly cancer screening tests, including the blood test, CA125 which detects ovarian cancer, mammogram, colonoscopy, and endoscopy.”

Obviously, once hearing that she had early stage cancer, Grammer made the decision to “do it right away.” Her rep told US Weekly that the star encourages all women to have their annual tests, and to take genetic factors into account.

Grammer left "Real Housewives" for the show’s fourth season, causing a bit of talk when she made the announcement in March.

After seeing all the speculation aroused about why she would leave the show, Grammer tweeted at the time:
