The world’s tallest and fastest roller coaster, the Fury 325, will open at the Carowinds in Charlotte, North Carolina, this summer, and video of a Wednesday test run on the “giga coaster” is going viral.
Part of a $50 million park expansion, the Fury has an initial drop of 81 degrees and reaches speeds of 95 miles per hour.
“Heralded as the largest, single investment in the history of Carowinds, Fury 325 will embody the fierce attributes of a hornet, boldly transforming the park’s skyline and front entrance,”
the amusement park’s website said.
Three 32-passenger trains will carry riders to the top of a 325-foot drop, and then into a “massive 190-foot tall barrel turn and a high speed S-curve reaching speeds of up to 95 miles per hour,” the website described the Fury’s course. The ride takes three minutes and 25 seconds and covers 6,602 feet of steel.
“Starting with Fury 325, we plan to make Carowinds a destination for thrillseekers to celebrate the Carolinas,” Mike Fehnel, Carowinds vice president and general manager, said in a news release. “The new ride will build on the heritage of the park, creating new memories and traditions for our loyal fans and future guests from around the world.”
Many got online to make plans to go to — or avoid — the spring Fury opening.
