Carrie Fisher, the actress best known for her role as Princess Leia in the "Star Wars" movies, will present the Screen Actors Guild Lifetime Achievement Award to her mother, Debbie Reynolds, at the ceremony on Jan. 25.
Reynolds, 82, has performed in more than 50 movies, including "Singin' in the Rain," "The Unsinkable Molly Brown," and
"How the West Was Won," Entertainment Tonight reported. Reynolds also starred in two Broadway shows and two television series.
She is being recognized for her career achievement and
humanitarian accomplishments, SAG said in a news release. The presentation of the award will be the centerpiece of the awards ceremony.
SAG-AFTRA President Ken Howard congratulated Reynolds in a statement: "She is a tremendously talented performer with a diverse body of screen and stage work, live performances and several hit records. Her generous spirit and unforgettable performances have entertained audiences across the globe, moving us all from laughter to tears and back again."
Reynolds, who has sung with Frank Sinatra and danced with Fred Astaire, was nominated for five Golden Globes and a Primetime Emmy for her role on "Will and Grace," Entertainment Tonight noted.
Previous Lifetime Achievement Award recipients include Rita Moreno, Dick Van Dyke, Mary Tyler Moore, Ernest Borgnine, Betty White, and James Earl Jones.
Fisher wrote "Postcards from the Edge," a memoir about her life as the daughter of a famous actress, as well as the TV movie "These Old Broads," which starred Reynolds and
Elizabeth Taylor, Entertainment Weekly reported.
The SAG awards will be broadcast live on TNT and TBS on Jan. 25.
