Carrie Fisher, 'Princess Leia,' Drops 40 Pounds for New 'Star Wars'

Carrie Fisher, the actress who starred as Princess Leia in the iconic "Star Wars" films, has reportedly dropped 40 pounds as she prepares for the newest installment of the science-fiction film series, mom Debbie Reynolds said last week.

Reynolds, who spilled the beans to "Extra" host Mario Lopez, said 57-year-old Fisher has been buzzing about her big "Star Wars" return. The actress is most excited about reconnecting with her original costars Harrison Ford and Mark Hamill, Reynolds said.

"She's in London now and she's very excited about it," Reynolds told "Extra." "She's been on a diet ever since. You have to be up to par. She looks terrific. She lost 40 pounds. She's very excited as we all are because we all love 'Star Wars.'"

Fisher caught fans' attention last year when she told an audience at the Calgary Comic Expo that she was getting in "action movie shape" by working with a trainer.

"I'm really eating a lot of sugar in advance, as you can see," she said, according to the Calgary Herald. "By the time I really get down to it, I will have eaten everything."

Late last month, director J.J. Abrams released a photo of the "Star Wars: Episode VII" cast during a script reading at the Pinewoods Studios in London. Up until then, the casting had been a closely guarded secret, despite several leaks, according to the New York Daily News.

Along with Fisher, Hamill and Ford, Peter Mayhew, Kenny Baker, and Anthony Daniels are also expected to reprise their masked roles as Chewbacca, R2-D2, and C-3PO.

The latest "Star Wars" installment takes place some 30 years after 1983’s "Return of the Jedi," in which the Rebel Alliance, led by Luke Skywalker, blew up the last version of the Death Star and Darth Vader dies. The movie is scheduled to premiere in December 2015.
