'Carrie' Prank Spooks NYC Coffee Shop To Promote Movie (Video)

Sony, the makers of the upcoming "Carrie" remake, didn’t settle for movie posters to promote their new film, but instead decided to scare the living daylights out of customers at a New York City coffee shop with a frighteningly elaborate prank.

A clip of the "Carrie" prank, "Telekinetic Coffee Shop Surprise," first shows a construction crew erecting a fake brick wall in the back of 'Snice Coffee Shop in West Village. The wall incorporates a pulley system that attaches to a stuntman on the other side. Remote controls are installed on all the shop's tables and chairs, and the paintings that hang on the walls and books on the bookshelf are loaded with springs.

A "Carrie" actress settles in amongst a crowd of actors in the back of the shop while unsuspecting real-life customers trickle in and out to order a sandwich or a coffee.

Action.

The stuntman accidentally spills "Carrie's" coffee all over her laptop.

"Oh my God! You just ruined all of my stuff!" she shouts, as customers turn to stare. "You know what, just get away from me!"

And with that — and a pushing hand motion — the stuntman goes flying up the wall. "Carrie" then sends the tables and chairs rolling away. Finally, she lets out a blood-curdling scream that pops all the paintings off the walls and books off the shelf.

The customers' facial reactions are pretty priceless, and people online are applauding Sony for such a creative and realistic marketing campaign.

"GENIUS!!!! I love it, such a good job, looked so real haha," one YouTube user commented.

"Omg this is hilarious but if I was them I would've been scared too," another posted.

"Carrie," starring Chloe Grace Moretz and Julianne Moore, premieres Oct. 18. The film is a remake of the 1976 horror classic about a girl with telekinetic powers.
